Especially after El Derecho this summer, The Lawyer and I weren't messing around. We grew up in South Florida, where hurricanes can easily rip the roof of your house and severely interrupt your life, so you'd better believe that I had us well-stocked with days and days worth of food, water, batteries, and candles.
Very thankfully, we didn't need our provisions. I'll take being overprepared above being underprepared any day!
I was taking hourly photos of the tree outside of my balcony, because I was sure that the winds were going to slowly rip the leaves off of it, but nothing happened to it. It is a survivor!
This is a short video I took of the wind gusts yesterday afternoon. They did pick up a bit after this, but it was dark outside and as you can hear, I'm a wuss and was all, "I'M GETTING WET OUT HERE ON THE BALCONY!"
In all seriousness, though, I hope that you and yours are all safe...especially readers in NJ and NY!

So glad to hear you are safe! I have been thinking of you and hoping you were able to stay safe!
I'm glad you are O.K.! I have a bunch of unused supplies, too, and am grateful. Some of my poor friends don't have power, though.
So grateful you are alright. I am with you about preferring to be over prepared rather than under prepared. I have 20 gallons of unopened water in my house too and not a storm or drought in sight. You never know when you might need it!
Yikes! So glad you're safe and didn't lose power!
(Hurricanes *terrify* me -- I'll take the odd volcanic eruption/earthquake risk over a hurricane any day.) :)
Nice to know you're safe. You know, I've been following you about a year now, so I feel like I know so much about you (via your blog), yet I didn't know what you looked like or how your voice sounded. It's nice to hear your voice =). I hope I didn't come off as creepy... :-/
